As clearly demonstrated in the Governance Competency Framework, a Chair is expected to demonstrate a wide of skills and responsibilities. This development session, using a mixture of presentation, discussion and a variety of group activities, will provide greater insight into the role of a modern-day Chair.
This course is non-chargeable for those schools with an annual Octavo Governance training contract.
Considering the role of Chair, either of the Full Board or a Committee, can discourage some Governors who are unclear as to the roles and responsibilities of a Chair and how leadership skills, such as the effective chairing of a meeting, can be developed.
This development session provides a practical insight into the Chair’s role in strategic leadership and in ensuring accountability and will offer opportunities to share experiences and good practice and examine the skills required to chair a meeting effectively. This session will help Governing Boards when thinking about succession planning in the run up to annual Chair elections at the start of the new academic year.
This session will assist Governors’ development of all the key competencies within the Governance Competency Framework.
