Newly Qualified Teachers

The Valley Teaching School Alliance and the Croydon Catholic Schools’ Umbrella Trust, in partnership with Octavo deliver professional support, mentoring and training to equip newly qualified teachers (NQTs) for the classroom and a career in teaching.

The Octavo NQT Appropriate Body Service validates that a school’s NQT training and support consistently meets high standards.

Teacher Guidance

Starting in the teaching profession can be daunting. Our NQT service ensures your teachers are supported from the very beginning of their induction year, through to final assessment and certification from the Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA).

Quality Assured

Through the NQT Induction Service we fulfil the statutory role of ‘appropriate body’, quality assuring the induction year ensuring that schools provide quality support for their NQTs, and that their assessment is fair and consistent.

Developing Careers

Octavo’s NQT service works in partnership with Chipstead Valley Teaching School and the Catholic Schools’ Umbrella Trust, to deliver a year-long training and career progression programme, enabling NQTs to develop their knowledge and skills with a supportive cohort of peers.

Mentor Support

Octavo provides high quality information, guidance and training for induction tutors to support them in their role. We offer termly network meetings for NQT mentors to foster peer-to-peer support, shared learning and an opportunity to share their challenges or concerns.

Extended support for newly qualified teachers

Occasionally, there is the need for follow-up support on issues arising from NQT assessment or observations. Octavo’s specialist NQT consultancy team is available to do this – for example by talking through the options available with the school and NQT.
