Introduction

Croydon Literacy Centre offers a ‘new beginning’ for children struggling with literacy. Our intensive programme of support helps overcome barriers to learning and assists greater inclusion in the mainstream curriculum.

Benefits

Children who come to us become more confident in class and are significantly more engaged in learning.

Many achieve expected literacy levels for their peer group and require much less direct support in school. All our children make progress.

Children at the Literacy Centre benefit from:

  • Mixing with children with similar difficulties
  • Experienced teachers of young people with dyslexia and co occurring difficulties
  • A highly structured and individualised programme
  • Multi sensory techniques
  • Increased confidence
  • Improved literacy skills
  • Learning new strategies
  • Greater independence
  • A changed attitude to learning

Our CPD courses enable staff to be more confident in dealing with literacy issues and improve quality first teaching (QFT) and learning in the classroom.

The consultancy model, ‘Bound for Success’, enables teachers and teaching assistants to be effective in delivering an intervention that will improve literacy skills, particularly for those ‘lost’ at transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 or KS2 to KS3.
