Internal Controls for Academies

The focus on internal controls is a key part of the work of the Board of Directors/Finance Committee of an Academy Trust

that is accountable for the robustness of the management control system in place.

This course is non-chargeable for those schools within the Governor Services SLA.

This training session will consider more in depth:

• Why the focus on internal controls is more intent for Academy Trusts than maintained schools
• the key areas that governors should be focusing on when considering the internal controls in place
• Key questions the Directors should be asking of the school’s finance function and how the work of the

Finance Governor/Internal Audit function will support them in their workings
