Year 2 writing moderation cluster (EXS/GDS) Summer 2023 | Octavo Partnership

Course Date

04 May 2023 15:45 – 17:15

Overview

Writing cluster meetings support Year 2 teachers to develop their own teacher assessment judgements and to be able to articulate these through professional dialogue. They provide an opportunity for teachers to standardise their judgements for writing against the teacher assessment framework (using nationally available resources) and to consider their pupils’ writing in relation to these standards.
Meetings will focus on the following standards: EXS and GDS.

The sessions give Year 2 teachers the opportunity to learn about national messages from STA about statutory writing assessments at the end of KS1.

Working in pairs and small groups, teachers will consider different aspects of the TAF and the evidence in their own pupils’ writing. Through dialogue, they will establish a clear understanding of the statutory expectations and share the implications for teaching and learning in their classrooms.

Description

This session is intended to:
• support teachers to have a clear understanding of statutory assessment arrangements for writing at the end of KS1
• support teachers in understanding the KS1 teacher assessment standards for writing
• provide teachers with an opportunity to engage in standardisation and moderation activities
• Develop teachers’ judgements in preparation for writing assessment at the end of KS1

Teachers will be required to upload, in advance, 3 pieces of writing for each of two pupils who should each be working at one of the standards being focused on during this meeting (teachers may wish to include a pupil who is at the borderline between the two standards). They should include, as far as possible, a range of writing which will cover different aspects of the standards.

WHEN UPLOADING THE WRITING, TEACHERS MUST REFER TO THE USER GUIDE WHICH WILL BE SENT TO THEM IN ADVANCE OF THE MEETING
