An Update on Mental Health and Well-being for Governors | Octavo Partnership

Course Date

10 Nov 2021 18:00 – 19:30

Overview

The mental health and wellbeing of school staff and pupils is a key current focus on the educational and governance landscape. An effective Governing Board needs to understand its role and responsibilities in ensuring and promoting the wellbeing of its staff and pupils, as well as the questions it should be asking of its Senior Leadership Team.

This new development session builds on the issues discussed during the session “Mental Health and Wellbeing for Governors” which Governors need to have attended prior to attending this update.

This course is non-chargeable for those schools that have an annual Octavo Governance training contract.

Description

Led by an experienced Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructor, this new development session will provide Governors with the opportunity to explore further:

· Increased awareness of the specific challenges to positive mental health due to the ongoing long term impact of the pandemic

· Implications of new Ofsted requirements on creating a whole school ethos around safeguarding and mental health

· Better understanding of the relationship between stress and mental health for staff

· Implications of the Equality Act 2010 for staff with a diagnosed mental health issue

· Discussion of how Governors can support school leadership teams to manage staff mental health in the workplace, including where performance has become an issue
