National Award for SEN Coordination (NaSENCO) | Octavo Partnership

Course Date

17 Apr 2018 10:00 - 12:30

Overview

The National Award for SEN Coordination is a one year, part time postgraduate certificate course, which, on successful completion of the assessed work will give SENCOs 60 Masters level credits (the equivalent to a third of a full Masters).

Description

The SEN Code of Practice states that newly appointed SENCOs must achieve a national award for SEN coordination within 3 years of appointment.

To support local access and delivery to this programme, we are continuing to work in partnership with Christchurch Canterbury University. The course will start in the spring term and will be based at Fairchildes. This will provide opportunities to see at first hand the practice and approaches to inclusive practice at this outstanding primary school.

The course is open to both primary and secondary SENCOs as this approach has proved beneficial in terms of developing shared perspectives of the challenges and opportunities in delivering high quality SEND provision in a range of settings.

The course content is comprehensive covering:
•Statutory legislation and the SEN and Disability policy context
•Identifying pupil needs
•Co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating provision
•Strategic leadership and management
•Working effectively in partnership with others – parents and professionals
•Understanding funding systems and strategic resource planning
•Action research and evidence based practice
