Overview

The recent government announcement that all schools must become academies by 2022 means that it is vital that schools are informed about the conversion process. Octavo is proud to offer independent advice to school leaders from Stephen Smith an experienced, independent, project manager, to give you an overview of the process of converting which will allow you to keep your focus on the school improvement process.

Description

By the end of the course you will have a better understanding of:-
•the process of becoming an academy, the decisions you will need to make and the actions you will need to manage. The implications of the decisions and actions will be covered;
•the TUPE consultation process that deals with the transfer of the staff;
•the responsibilities and accountabilities associated with being an academy;
•how the company will be established and how it will run and operate;
•the relationship between the members and directors of the Academy Trust Company (the Company that will need to be formed for the conversion to take place) and how these will be enshrined in the Memorandum and Articles of Association;
•the Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State and its implications;
•the land transfer arrangements and agreements and, where appropriate, the 125 year lease;
•how the transfer of the school’s assets are dealt with in the Commercial Transfer Agreement;
•the practical arrangements for the conversion, including financial management;
•how to manage the process of converting and prepare for what lies beyond.
